Soap Making – Testing Fragrance Oils

A video showing one way to test fragrance oils in a small 1 pound batch of soap. I used 1oz of Fragrance Oil per pound of oil. Some people use less, but that formula has worked for me so far. 1. Hi Helen,as alway,s you are very informative. it is interesting that you put the fragrance in the oils before the lye was added. can you add additional fragrance just before you put the soap in the mold?

  2. Well Helen, I guess I will probably start with the CP method. My palm & coconut oils have arrived, and I have most of the other tools needed to start. The shea butter has shipped. The last thing I need to purchase is the lye. I find myself partial to goat’s milk soaps. For my first batch of soap it will be made with 60% lard, 20% coconut, 20% palm, pastel purple for color & lavendar for scent. I will use 3″ PVC pipe for a mold. Any suggestions before I start??? Thanks!

  3. @HJKelley47 Hi, thanks for your comment. When I speak of solid oils, the ones that I use are Coconut, Palm & Shea Butter. And when I say liquid oils I am referring to Olive, Soybean, Rice Bran, Grapeseed and Castor as these are the liquid oils that I use on a regular basis. If you have any other questions please feel free to ask. Do you plan on making Cold Process or Hot Process? Because I will be putting up more video’s over the weekend.

  4. I agree that there are “plenty of other videos out there”, however, they are not all as articulate and clearly informative as your videos. Would like to understand more succintly which particular solid oils, i.e. shea butter, palm oil, coconut oil; and when you say liquie oils, would that refer to: olive oil and castor oil??? My scale is being shipped, and I just purchased a digital cooking thermometer.

  5. @OrigiNatural Hi, the amount of FO will be between .7oz & 1oz per pound of oils, depending on the FO that you use. I have been successful with 1 oz ppo. The books you get will definitely give you a lot of information. And yes, when I added the lye water to the oils the saponfication process began, then I put the soap in the mold where it sets up for 24-48 hr, then the soap will cure for 4 wks. I will be doing another video that goes through the entire process. Thanks for watching. :)
